Claire Marie Gerthe has used her teaching gift for nearly seventeen years. She loves working with students of all ages – kids, teenagers, and adults – and firmly believes it’s never too late to begin learning an instrument. Claire has been a student of music herself since she was eight years old, and had the privilege of studying under Dr. Andrew Cooperstock and Dr. Laura Smith. She completed the National Piano Guild’s rigorous 10 year program to obtain the prestigious Paderewski Gold Medal. Her favorite composers are J.S. Bach, Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy, and George Gershwin. She believes that if you learn to play Bach, you can learn to play anything.

Claire is also a Christian singer-songwriter, believing music to be a key instrument for expressing one’s deepest beliefs.

In addition to running her studio, Claire serves the community through directing, leading, orchestrating church music productions and worship services, as well as providing music for funerals and weddings. In recent years, she served as a judge at the Colorado Association of Christian School’s Fine Arts Competition.

Claire is committed to being a life-long learner. Most recently, she has begun the arduous task of learning Byzantine chant, which – unlike Gregorian chant – is not based on western music notation. Her commitment to learning helps make Claire a compassionate and engaged instructor.

Outside of music, Claire is an avid reader and enjoys reading all kinds of books. Her favorite genres are theology, religion, history, and classic literature. She also enjoys gardening, spending time outdoors, and creative outlets such as photography, poetry, and painting. In her free time, she can often be found on a hiking trail or in a local coffee shop reading a book.

Claire and her husband make their home in Longmont with their three children.

Quotes by the Greats

“I didn’t even start playing the piano until I was about 13 or 14. I guess I must have had a little talent or whatever-you-call-it, but I practiced regularly, and that’s what counts.”

-George Gershwin

“It is the special province of music to move the heart.”

― J. S. Bach

“Bach is an astronomer, discovering the most marvelous stars. Beethoven challenges the universe. I only try to express the soul and the heart of man.”

– Frederic Chopin
